Members of the USGBC in the greater Lexington and Louisville Metropolitan areas began informal meetings in the spring of 2003 to discuss formation of a local chapter of the USGBC. On August 28, 2003, an official letter was sent to the national USGBC announcing our intentions to form an organizing chapter in order to achieve a Provisional Chapter. 

• The USGBC granted Kentucky Organizing Group Status on September 8, 2003. 
• The USGBC granted Kentucky Provisional Chapter Status in July, 2004. 
• The Kentucky Chapter was granted 501 c3 status in November, 2007 and was elevated to full chapter status in 2008.
