Water Use Reduction Inside and Outside Buildings

This class describes various opportunities for reducing water use inside and outside of buildings. It describes available plumbing fixtures that use less water than code compliant fixtures. It also describes innovative plumbing fixtures such as composting toilets. Topics on exterior water use include improved irrigation efficiency, and rainwater capture and reuse. Integration of all of these systems is discussed and class exercises are performed where water use and reuse calculations are performed.

At the end of this course, attendees will be able to:

1. Select plumbing fixtures that are water efficient.

2. Understand the various types of innovative plumbing fixtures and how they work.

3. Implement efficient irrigation strategies.

4. Be able to evaluate rainwater capture and reuse systems.

5. Perform related calculations


Case Studies of LEED Projects

This class describes an assortment of LEED projects that were certified at different levels under different rating systems. It discusses green building strategies that were used by the project team to achieve LEED certification.  The discussion includes the LEED scorecard for each project and advantages and disadvantages of pursuing various LEED credits.

At the end of this course, attendees will be able to: 

1. Understand the various LEED credits and their applicability to various projects and project types.

2. Identify green building strategies and LEED credits and the applicability of their implementation.

3. Have a better understanding of LEED certified projects and how they can apply lessons learned from specific projects.


Introduction to LEED for Schools

This class provides an introduction into the LEED for Schools rating system. It discusses the differences between LEED for Schools and LEED for New Construction and Major Renovation. It identifies when LEED for Schools is the appropriate rating system to use.

At the end of this course, attendees will be able to:

1. Recognize the difference between LEED for Schools and LEED for New Construction. 

2. Know when to utilize the LEED for Schools rating system.

3. Understand the benefits of LEED certified schools.
