WHAT'S NEW Top 10!


1. We have staff.  Through winning a National Challenge Grant, we were able to hire a full time Executive Director and an Events and Outreach Coordinator. 

2. We've expanded our education programs.   As an Education Provider, we will offer Credential Maintenance courses around Kentucky.  We’ve added Green Advantage Certification training for construction personnel in addition to our LEED workshops and continue to provide education to support Kentucky’s new High Performance Buildings standards.  The education committee is spearheading new course development specifically designed for our needs here in Kentucky.  

3. We've grown.  We’ve increase membership 65% and have numerous requests from around Kentucky to organize Chapter activities in these communities.  Our communications committee launched the Chapter website and produce the Communiqué, a monthly newsletter to keep members up to date on Chapter events and important news from USGBC National. 

4. We're educating future builders.  Through our membership committee, recent graduates are working with students and faculty in their alma maters to grow awareness of Kentucky USGBC and LEED. 

5.  Green Scenes remain free for members and open to all.  Because of the generosity of our corporate sponsors, the Chapter continues to provide the Green Scene event, a terrific networking opportunity for like-minded individuals who are passionate about sustainability, Chapter member or not. 

6.  We’re helping you make the case for LEED.  Our board of directors recently established a volunteer-based task force to study the costs associated with Kentucky LEED projects.  We understand Kentucky-specific cost data is needed to support the advancement of LEED projects in the Commonwealth.

7.  We provide the forum for learning and networking.  No other non-profit organization in Kentucky brings together a multitude of stakeholders focused on advancing a sustainable built environment here at home.  USGBC brings together  14 member categories including building product manufacturers, contractors and builders, corporate and retail, educational and research institutions, environmental and non-profit organizations, federal government, finance and insurance community, professional firms (architects, engineers, consultants, legal, design and technical), professional societies and trade associations, real estate and real estate  providers, state and local governments and utilities. 

8.  We've got a statewide Advocacy Committee In an effort to affect building codes and legislation, our advocacy committee is hard at work on your behalf to bring about positive change and remove outdated barriers to good sustainable design. 

9.  We're changing schools in Kentucky.  Working with our state legislators, our advocacy committee established a Green Schools Caucus for both the house and senate and has signed up mayors from around Kentucky in support of Green Schools for their communities.  Our Chapter will be educating top leaders about the healthy impacts green schools have, including better indoor air quality, which helps reduce asthma, increase attendance and performance of both students and teachers. 

10.  We've got strong corporate partners.  Our support from the corporate community is outstanding.  Through the generous support of our board members’ organizations that embrace countless hours of volunteer time to lead this Chapter, as well as participation in our Chapter Partner Program and the sponsorship of a variety of chapter activities and events, the Chapter has worked to keep pace with tremendous growth and requests for help.
